It's not everyday you get to shop with a cop, but on Monday, that's exactly what 40 area students from Muskingum, Morgan and Coshocton counties did.

Every year the Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge gives kids and teens a Christmas they may not otherwise get. They give each student over $100 to spend, team them up with law enforcement officers and send them shopping at Walmart to get whatever they want.

The Salvation Army is in desperate need of help from the community.

They operate primarily on grant money and from the support of the public, and every Christmas they provide presents for thousands of children and food for over 600 families. But this year, their stock of gifts and food is running low. Major Diane Campbell is asking the community to support the Salvation Army this Christmas by helping local families in need.

This Christmas, an organization called Toys for Tots is collecting new Christmas presents to give to local children. Toys for Tots Coordinator Opal Lambert says she has received requests from area churches, schools and other organizations for over 4,000 presents, which is double the amount needed last year. Lambert is asking the community to help make the toy drive a success and to help every child have a Merry Christmas.

Shoppers swarmed Kmart on Saturday to purchase those last-minute gifts to put under the tree.

Kmart employee Saundra Fisher said it's been tough to keep up with the high demand of hit toys.

"One of them is the Fijit, which is an interactive toy," said Fisher.  "Also the Orbeez Foot Spa and the Monster High Dolls.  Everybody is crazy about those dolls.  The most popular is the LeapFrog TouchPad.  No one has it."

Bikers are revving up for a good cause, despite the cold weather.

Rushing Wind Biker Church hosted its 14th Annual Motorcyclists for Kids Toy Ride Saturday afternoon in the Colony Square Mall parking lot. There 150 bikes on display and more than 200 people turned out to raise money for the Salvation Army. The local pastor says the church works with the organization to help underpiriveleged children in the tri-county area.
