With the temperatures reaching unbearably low numbers most people are planning to wait out the cold indoors. However, if you're a firefighter, staying in isn't always an option.

The winter months can be a particularly tricky season for the Zanesville Fire Department. Firefighters are often out in freezing temperatures dealing with water, but the cold water doesn't just cause problems during a fire, it makes clean up particularly tricky.

The return to warmer temperatures later this week may sound good right now, but it could lead to flooding in some areas . The Zanesville Fire Department is asking area residents to stay alert.

A drive by took place on Leonard Avenue in Zanesville on Saturday.

The firemen at the Zanesville Fire Department held their first annual Toys for Tots Drive By event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Locals were able to drive through the station and drop off new unwrapped toys in designated bins. Visitors also received a few special treats for their generosity.

This Christmas, an organization called Toys for Tots is collecting new Christmas presents to give to local children. Toys for Tots Coordinator Opal Lambert says she has received requests from area churches, schools and other organizations for over 4,000 presents, which is double the amount needed last year. Lambert is asking the community to help make the toy drive a success and to help every child have a Merry Christmas.
