The church has left the building - at least that's what volunteers at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church are saying.

Pastor Mark Matzke said the Zanesville church is metaphorically tearing down the walls to bring the community together for a good cause.  He said members of the church are mailing care packages to service men and women overseas.

Operation Spirit will soon have a new home.

The Zanesville Military Support Ministry uses money raised to send care packages and other necessities to troops overseas. Director Melodie Pittman said their current location is in need of too many structural repairs and will eventually be torn down. Pittman has been at the Balls Lane location, near Wal-Mart for the past 3 years and said the ideas of moving was overwhelming.

If you were driving along the Maysville Pike in South Zanesville Saturday, you may have noticed an ambitious group of youngsters trying to flag you down.

Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 132 gathered outside the Maysville Avenue Sheetz to collect items and send care packages to troops overseas. A local Boy Scout, with the mind-set to one day serve, is doing his part now to show his support for our troops.

Troop 164's, Judah Horval, has aimed to become an Eagle Scout and then... an officer in the military. As part of his mission, he has launched a project to send 25 care packages overseas.

Soldiers are being recognized this holiday season.

Operation Spirit of Zanesville is making sure no one is forgotten this Christmas; months have been spent gathering any items that troops might need that aren't readily available to them. From candy and books to simple holiday decorations, owner Melodie Pittman said it's all appreciated.

Ohio Christmas tree growers are trying to spread some holiday cheer overseas.

300 trees form the Buckeye State will be sent to Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, and Kuwait for Operation Evergreen. There are some restrictions though. The trees need to be a certain size to fit into a 12 X 12 X 84 inch box.
