The Ohio United Way celebrates a major milestone and honors some local volunteers during their celebration.

Each year the Ohio United Way holds a legislative luncheon and this year in celebration of their 100th Anniversary they decided to honor 100 United Way heroes.

Our local United Way nominated three volunteers that made the list including Dean Cole, Cindy Linn and Brian Wagner. Each have served multiple years with the Muskingum, Perry and Morgan organization.

Tax season is here, and the United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties is helping people keep more money in their pockets.

Today volunteers hosted a free tax preparation clinic at the Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority.  Coordinator Katie Law said it's important to avoid paying high preparation fees, steer clear of refund anticipation loans and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Community members tackle the role income plays in creating a stable community.

The United Way held their discussion on income at the Muskingum County Business Incubator with around twenty people. This is one of a series of meetings the United Way is holding.

Barriers and ways to help improve the income of those in the community are under discussion.

The United Way is hosting a meeting that will focus around income goals in Perry, Muskingum and Morgan counties. An interactive class seeks to get participants on the path to financial success.

The United Way's, "Planning Your Financial Future" class is set to begin Tuesday at the John McIntire Library, but the organization is still in need of at least three more people to sign up in order to offer the course. If getting your finances in order is one of your new year's resolutions the United Way is providing help.

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties had a community conversation about education outcomes Tuesday morning. The outcomes are goals that the United Way has set and wants to see accomplished. Through it's community matters survey the United Way has created four pillars that they believe can create a more stable community. It includes income, education and health.

The Southeast Ohio 2-1-1 call center saw an increase in calls during the month of May.

Manager Audrey Foster said the increase in calls coincides with the summer season.

Food still remains the top priority for those who call 2-1-1 and foster said during the summer, those supplies for some come up short.
