A Day of Caring took place across the country - including Zanesville.

The day is sponsored by United Way. Local businesses are asked to volunteer at their local food pantry. In Zanesville Merrill Lynch is the first business to take part in the "Day of Caring."

Recent heat advisories have many seeking relief - only to find a shortage of fans.

Last week the South East Ohio 2-1-1 Call Center of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties received more than 40 phone calls of people asking where they could find a box fan as a relief from the heat. Salvation Army Office Assistant Mindy McCloy said both Community Action and the Salvation Army ran out of fans.

A driving force to improve the quality of life... United Way will focus on income, education and health.

United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties will invest more than $800,000 back into the community. The funding is comprised from individuals, businesses and the government. American Electric Power and the United Way team up to help residents of Perry, Muskingum and Morgan Counties.

AEP provided the agency with over $21,000 to be used to help those experiencing financial difficulties with rent or mortgage payments. One of the qualifications is that you must be at least one month behind in making those payments.

There's a different type of camp your children can attend this summer.

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties and the Muskingum Family Y are launching a three week science camp. It will be geared towards sixth through eighth graders.

The United Way's Investment Committee met Monday afternoon to discuss funding for the 2012 fiscal year.
