The November General Election is here, and voters headed to the polls throughout Tuesday in Zanesville as well as the rest of the country.

Poll workers called turnout this morning heavy, steady this afternoon and heavy Tuesday evening. Early Tuesday morning we caught up with some voters who were willing to share their reasons for voting the way they did, and why they believe voting is important.

The November General Election is just a few hours away. For those who are waiting until Tuesday to fill out their ballot, the polls will open at 6:30 in the morning and will close at 7:30 at night. The Muskingum county Board of Elections spent most of Monday preparing for the big day.

"[Monday] is the day that presiding judges of each precinct are coming into the office and picking up their supplies and taking them to that location for election day." said Hamill.

A State House Panel is considering a bill that would require you to show a photo I.D. before voting.

Right now, you just have to have proof of your current address and name to cast a ballot.

"As of right now the Ohio revised code 350518 let's you have 7 different forms of identifications to let you go to the polls or to vote in person," said Chris Hamill from the Muskingum County  Board of Elections.

It is General Election day and voters are heading to the polls to help decide important races and issues.  Turnout is being called steady today.

18th Congressional Democratic Incumbent Zack Space is out visiting voters Tuesday. Congressman Space said he's focused on the election and what he can do for the district tomorrow regardless of today's outcome.

The Morgan County Board of Elections today conducted a recount involving a race from the May Primary. Officials say the recount occurred in the race for County Commissioner and nothing changed from election night. With the results in and the election over, the 85 precincts in Muskingum County say it was a slow day overall, but poll workers also say that is typical for a May Primary.

"The general procedure is in the mornings, we get mostly older folks. Then as the day wears on, people that are working come in the late afternoon and evening, " says poll worker Floyd Felumlee.

The May Primary is a week away, and the Muskingum County Board of Elections is making all the necessary preparations before the big day.

The Muskingum County Board of Elections is extending its hours until nine tonight.

You can begin voting in this year's May Primary Election.

It's the first day for absentee ballots.

"You can actually call our office and request an application for an absentee ballot, and we'll gladly mail that out to you. You can go on our Website. You can print out an application for an absentee ballot and mail that in, or you can come in the office here to fill out an application, " says Muskingum County Board of Elections Executive Director, Chris Hamill.
