Matt Russell, Administrative Deputy at the Muskingum County Engineer's Office, says the MCEO currently has 300 tons of salt left to last them until the end of winter. Typically the Muskingum County Engineer's Office uses 3,000 to 4,000 tons of salt a year. This year, that number has nearly doubled to 6,000 tons. Russell says because they have maxed out their state contract, it's unlikely they will order more salt.

Crews from the Muskingum County ODOT Garage will be working around the clock to prep roadways for the snow, ice, and rain mix that's expected to hit late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Those needing shelter in this frigid weather can seek help at the Salvation Army.

With dangerously cold temperatures in the forecast, shelter manager, Karen Walker, says there are spots available at the Salvation Army's Putnam Avenue location.

Meteorologist's have been forecasting the next winter storm for several days.

As a strong low pressure trucks it's way northeast, multiple forms of precipitation will effect our area on Wednesday. With predictions for heavy snow and accumulations of three to seven inches, many prepared for the storm prior to the Christmas holiday.

The first day of winter arrived with authority and area stores are stocked with supplies.

The Do-It Center on the East Pike has everything homeowners will need from shovels to de-icer. The store has had steady traffic as shoppers snap up the most needed items.

Assistant Manager Dennis Baldwin says this usually happens when the first snow storm comes into town and they are ready for the rush.

In preparation for Friday's winter weather, many people found themselves stocking up on supplies at local stores.

The Pick-N-Save on Howard Street was bustling with activity Friday afternoon as shoppers picked up necessary supplies, such as food, shovels and salt.
