One month shy of his 93rd birthday, a local World War II veteran is being recognized for his sacrifice.

Richard McConnell's battered uniform, that he wore overseas more than 70 years ago, was just recently restored. Friday, The 92-year-old donated the historic ensemble to the Zanesville Post of the American Legion in a special ceremony at Willow Haven Nursing Home, where he currently resides.

Friday is Veterans Day -- a day to honor those who have served in the past and are serving now.

Korean War Veteran Howard Slaughter doesn't like to talk a lot about his time spent in the war, but said today's modern equipment only creates a more dangerous atmosphere for soldiers serving today. He advises them to remain strong.

Students at the Mid-east Career and Technology Center learned about World War II from a man who was there.

Dante Toneguzzo is part of what has become the "greatest generation of men and women who literally save the world".
