 Students at Zane Grey Elementary were temporarily evacuated after a possible bomb threat Friday.

The Zanesville Police Department as well as the Zanesville Fire Department responded to the call just before noon. Students and faculty were evacuated and the building was searched. Some units remained on scene until 1 p.m.

Miss Ohio travels to our area to encourage the youth.

24-year-old Miss Ohio, Heather Wells visited Zane Grey Elementary earlier on Thursday to talk to third graders about motivation and perseverance. She says through competing she has learned those qualities are integral to succeeding in the future.

Parents of Zane Grey Elementary Students will receive a letter from the school.

Zanesville City Schools Student Service Coordinator Kevin Appleman said a rumor has been circulating about a gas leak at the school. He said while there is an odor at the building it is not a safety concern. He said the school has been working with the health department, fire department and gas company to determine the source of the smell.

After a fight on the playground, four Zanesville students are now suspended from Zane Grey Elementary School for beating up a 4th grade boy. But the mother of the boy said the school handled the situation wrong.

It was the first day of school for Zanesville City Students, and it was the first time three of the district's buildings have had kids filling the hallways.

Zanesville High School, John McIntire Elementary, and Zane Grey Elementary started the year off with ribbon-cuttings as they begin the new school year in new school buildings. Principal of Zane Grey Elementary, Jeff Moore, says everyone is looking forward to the school year.
