If you're looking for a way to spend your Memorial Day weekend, you can head down to Zane Landing Park this Saturday for the Jaycees Memorial Weekend Fest and Poker Run.

The Summer months provide the opportunity for many city improvements.

Tomorrow Zanesville will begin a two-month-long paving project. The project is funded completely through stimulus money and includes Ridge Avenue, Dryden, Pershing, and Dresden Roads.

After his son's death on Memorial Day in 2004, Gino Zimmer wanted something that would honor his son and all fallen Ohio soldiers fighting the War on Terror. Now, six years later, flags are waving, and Zimmer says what makes him happy is seeing the impact that this memorial has on others.

"My heart's healed, mostly from just doing this all the time. But the best enjoyment I get is the communities and how they come together," says Zimmer.

More than 500 flags are now waving proudly at Zane Landing Park in Zanesville.

The opening ceremony for the Flags of Freedom event kicked off Friday.

The founder of the Flags of Freedom, Gino Zimmer, says one flag holds special place in his heart--the flag that represents his son who lost his life in Iraq.
