Zanesville fire and police departments responded to a house fire late Friday morning.

A vacant house caught fire at 1139 Putnam Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. According to Zanesville's Deputy Fire Chief, Eric Waltemire, the cause of the fire is still under investigation but there is some suspicion since it is a vacant house. A motorcycle driver lost control and slid into a parked car near the intersection of West Muskingum and Pine Street Saturday.

According to Patrolman Kyle Brookover, a group of motorcycles was heading westbound on West Muskingum. National Fire Prevention Week is this week. The goal this year is to educate people on the importance of smoke alarms.

Each year fire prevention week is held to educate people on different aspects of staying safe from fire. This year the theme is testing your smoke alarms. A body was found in an alley behind the Old Munson Elementary School on Crown Avenue in South Zanesville.

The body was discovered and called in at approximately 8:50 Wednesday evening. Zanesville Police Department responded shortly after along with the Zanesville Fire Department and Community Ambulance. According to Lieutenant Chris Rice, the incident is being looked into as a homicide.

A house fire occurred at 351 Mead Street Friday evening.

The call for the blaze came just before 11PM Friday night. Zanesville Fire Department responded to the scene and was able to extinguish the fire, but had to return Saturday morning for a re-kindling in the front wall. The Zanesville Police Department received reports of multiple shots fired around 7:30 Thursday evening on Mead Street.

The Zanesville Fire Department collected donations for a great cause Friday.

The annual Fill the Boot campaign took place at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Bell from 10AM to 3PM. Zanesville fire fighters stood in the street with boots and took donations from passing drivers for Muscular Dystrophy. A search of a section of the Muskingum River for a possible subject in the water yields no results.

Zanesville Fire Department spent just under an hour Monday morning searching for a man reportedly in the water, after a call came in to authorities. The caller told fire personnel they believed they saw a man near the Y-bridge wearing a white shirt with his arms over his head in the river.

A man was rescued from the Muskingum River Wednesday afternoon.

The call came at around 5:15PM when someone spotted the man floating in the river. Zanesville Fire Department Lieutenant, Doug Hobson says they pulled him from the water just in time.

Two Newark women were sent to the hospital following an accident near the Y-Bridge Monday afternoon.

According to police, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a Chevy Lumina that was heading toward the Y-Bridge on West Main Street went off the left side of the roadway, through a grass field at a high rate of speed, and crashed over the emankment of the river.  The vehicle flipped several times before coming to rest right beside the river.
