The Zanesville Fire Department is on the scene of a fire that broke out at 940 West Main Street, Tuesday morning.

That is at the corner of West Main and Luck Avenue and was the former home of McCarty's Bar. The call came in just before 2:30 a.m. 

The two story structure is a commercial building and flames were seen coming out of the top of the building when firefighters arrived. 

West Main Street will remain closed while crews are on the scene.

Local firefighters took a course in emergency safety Tuesday.

Members of the Zanesville Fire Department, Falls Township Fire Department, and other agencies came together for a trench rescue safety workshop. Zanesville's Assistant Chief, Doug Hobson, said it's pertinent to have these classes, as Zanesville has seen a number of fatalities as a result of a trench rescue or structure collapse in the last 15 years.

Fire crews responded to the Fairfield Inn at 725 Zane Street Wednesday evening.

The hotel was evacuated after reports of smoke coming from the roof of the building. Once our crew arrived, flames could be seen coming from the attic on the west side of the building.

Firefighters from Zanesville along with mutual aid from Falls Township, Washington Township, and other first responders responded to the hotel around 5:30 p.m.

Zanesville city leaders appointed a familiar face to serve as new Assistant Fire Chief.

Former Lieutenant Doug Hobson has been named new Assistant Chief of the Zanesville Fire Department. In an emotional ceremony at city hall Friday, family, friends and co-workers gathered for the changing of the guard.

After 32 years of service Zanesville's assistant fire chief  Robert Long is retiring.

Motivated by a tough economy and his father who worked at the station before him, Long found his true calling as a fireman. He says firefighting has changed a lot since his first day on the job, from the gear the men wear to the way they put out fires but through the changes Long says he's made lifelong friends. Zanesville City Council held their first meeting for the month of July Monday evening.

An ordinance regarding the Fire Capital Projects Fund was up for a first reading. Public Safety Director, Fred Buck told us more about the history behind it.

The Fourth of July brings fireworks and the Zanesville Fire Department is reminding you once again to keep safety in mind.

We spoke to Lieutenant Jim Prang who said technically all fireworks are illegal in Ohio even though they are sold here. The Zanesville Fire Department is urging boaters to take caution on the water after recent rainfall.

Fire Fighter Greg Brocklehurst said high water means you may not see logs and debris that are visible when water is at a normal level.
