The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is preparing for it's upcoming Flu Clinic.

The event will be held at the Muskingum County Fair Grounds on October 9th from 9AM until 5PM or until supplies run out. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the state of Ohio.

Muskingum County in particular ranks 51 of 88 counties with a suicide rate of 10.6%. Medical Director of the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department, Dr. Vicki Whitacre says while 80% of individuals have contemplated suicide, there are specific groups at higher risk.

Following the death of a central Ohio teenager, more warnings are now being issued about the use of powdered caffeine.

Health officials report the Central Ohio Mumps outbreak is persisting. As of Tuesday April 22nd, 263 people have fallen ill to the virus.

Doctor Whitacre, Medical Director of the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department is cautioning viewers in our area to be aware of what's happening in our surroundings. 'National Prescription Drug Take Back Day' is this Saturday April 26th.

The Muskingum County Sheriffs Department as well as the DEA are working to help clean out medicine cabinets and dispose of prescription drugs properly. The mumps outbreak in Franklin County has jumped from 16 cases to 69 confirmed cases.

Of the confirmed cases, 52 are linked to Ohio State University students between ages 18-48. The remaining cases are confined to residents in Frankin county between the ages of 4 to 50. The mumps is spread the same way as the flu. Coughing and sharing saliva as well as any kind of respiratory secretions.

The state is taking steps to stop the spread of rabies. On Monday the health department began setting out baits with rabies vaccine in the eastern part of Ohio.

Three animals that pose a risk to our portion of the United States are bats, raccoons and skunks. So far this year, there have been 5 cases of raccoons infected with rabies in Ohio. Over the weekend, Four Star Pizza on Linden Avenue shut its doors at the Health Department's request. Tuesday, the store manager spoke out.
