Woman's Death May Be  Related To Medical Condition

CROOSKVILLE, OHIO (WHIZ) - The Crooksville Police Chief says a medical condition may have been to blame for the death of 26-year-old Kayla Barnett. Public information officer Jill DeLgreco says they're calling it a questionable death due to suspicious bruises found on Barnett's boday, at this point there's no clear cut cause.

The resignation of Mike Jacoby has left the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority without an executive director.

The Port Authority met for the first time since Jacoby left, But board member, Tom Poorman, said business is being carried out as normal.

During the month of September the Port Authorities and Chamber of Commerce for Muskingum and Guernsey Counties conducted a survey to determine to extent of the reported shortage of skilled workers.

The survey found numerous positions in need of skilled employees. One of the most common reasons employers are having difficulties filling those positions is a lack of experienced candidates. Mike Jacoby, of the Port Authority, said that in the next month they hope to meet with the industry...

If all goes according to plan a new apartment complex will soon take shape on Northpointe Drive.

At a special meeting Tuesday, the Port Authority entered into an agreement to sell just over 20 acres of land for $408,000 to Northpointe Reserve LLC. The company made up of two entities from North Carolina plans to use the land to build medium to high end apartments.

The Port Authority's Executive Director said Zanesville currently has a 99 percent occupancy rate.

After a couple of tests on the roadway at Eastpointe Industrial Park, the problem that plagues the road still remains a mystery.

Port Authority Executive Director Mike Jacoby said they recently dug a test hole expecting to find water as the source of the problem, but no water was found.  The sewer department then ran a camera through the sewer line that goes underneath the road, but they couldn't find any breaks in the line.

Roadway problems that were thought to be understood in the Eastpointe Industrial Park have taken a turn.

It was believed that a slip was forming in the roadway, but Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis told Port Authority Wednesday morning that there are actually other issues causing the problem.

The Muskingum County Commissioners passed a resolution to grant an enterprise zone agreement with "New Wayne Manufacturing".

Mike Jacoby of the the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority visited the Commissioners office this Monday afternoon to see to the approval. Wayne Manufacturing specializes in commercial and industrial custom steel fabrication.

On Wednesday, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Board authorized executive director Mike Jacoby to enter into a concession agreement with Savage Safe Handling, a rail transloader company. Jacoby says Savage Safe Handling will develop relationships with other companies and charge them to move product by railway and truck. The Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority is looking to possibly redevelop older properties in the city or county.

The project is still in the early phases. Right now the Port Authority is identifying key properties that have potential to be redeveloped but may have environmental contamination.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority is looking to expand two rail projects at the Eastpointe Business Park.

At Wednesday's meeting, discussions were held regarding the engineering needed for the rail extensions that would allow for easier loading for companies like Halliburton.
