Zanesville City Council held their first meeting for the month of September Monday evening.

An ordinance allowing the purchase of three new cruisers for the Zanesville Police Department appeared on the agenda. The Police Department has received three new cars every year for the last three years. Mayor Jeff Tilton told us more about the vehicles.

Zanesville Police said a motorcyclist was transported to the hospital after striking a pick-up truck on Sharon Avenue in Zanesville Thursday evening.

Patrolman Derek Schilling said a black Dodge pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Sharon avenue just before 5 p.m. when a black motorcycle traveling right behind rear-ended him. A Stockport man charged in a Muskingum County burglary has been placed at Appalachian Behavioral Health for treatment. 

Zanesville Police said that 28-year-old Jeffrey New broke into a house on Fairmont Avenue in July of 2014 and tried to stab the homeowner.

This June both the Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office and the defendents lawyer agreed that New was not competent to stand trial and he was found not guilty by reason of insanity in July.

After an accident at Military and Northpointe Tuesday, WHIZ New's Facebook page received many comments asking why something isn't done at the intersection.  

The Zanesville Police Department has responded to 21 accidents at the intersection since January 2014. Police captain Tony Coury said 12 of those have happened this year.

Multiple agencies responded to a two car injury accident at the intersection of Military Road and Northpointe Drive in Zanesville. 

It happened shortly before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. A woman in a silver car said she attempted to turn left off Military when she and a Ford Explorer made contact.

Only one arrest was made and there were only a handful of citations handed out in Friday's sobriety checkpoint in Zanesville. 

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol performed the checkpoint on Northpointe Drive near Brandywine Boulevard. During the checkpoint, 525 vehicles were stopped for an average of 30 seconds.

The investigation continues into a weekend robbery.  

It happened at the Muskingum Valley Vineyard Church on Putnam Avenue. The church reported the break in Sunday morning.

The Zanesville Police Department is on the lookout for a man after he stole a car around 2:45 Monday.

The department reported that it is looking for Shawn Williamson, 20. He is described as 6'2" wearing a white t-shirt, white shorts and no shoes.

Zanesville Police continue to investigate the shooting death of a Columbus man. 

Monday, the Zanesville Police Department released the name of the victim. Chief Kenneth Miller said William J. Young, 30, was shot late Friday at the Dairy Mart on the corner of Pine and Baker Streets. 

Miler said Tequane Boxley, 23, is charged with aggravated murder with gun specifications in the killing of Young.

The Century National Bank on Maysville Pike was robbed Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:30 PM, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and Zanesville Police Department responded to the branch near Clay Street where a man with a weapon robbed the bank.
