A former Zanesville Police Officer has passed away.

66-year-old Gregory Fisher died Saturday morning surrounded by family. Fisher was a 1965 graduate of Zanesville High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 and then joined the Zanesville Police Department in 1972, serving until 1993.

Funeral arrangements are being held by the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral home. Calling hours for friends and family are from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1p.m....

The Zanesville Police Department has qualified for the 2014 High Visibility Enforcement Overtime Grant from the state. If awarded, the police department would be able to use the funds for overtime on holiday's and during dangerous traffic time periods throughout the year. The police department is expected to hear about the status of the grant by September.

Keep an eye out for the Zanesville Police Department's new slick looking vehicles.

ZPD has been using the Crown Victorias since 1994. When they were discontinued it left them looking for a new cruiser. That's where the Dodge Charger comes in. City Council approved the purchase of the three chargers in March. Officials believe the Chargers will hold up to the riggers of the job.

Zanesville Police said a Thursday night accident  led to one arrest and many being left without power.

Lt. Chris Phipps said it happened around 11 p.m. when a driver was traveling north on State Street and lost control of his vehicle, crashing it into a power pole at the Blue Avenue Speedway.

The accident knocked out power for several hours. At one time American Electric reported that over 300 of its customers without service.

Zanesville Police find a new way to track down criminals.

Sunday, the department launched its Facebook page. The idea came from the Medina Police Department, who use the popular social networking site to help them serve warrants.

After using the site, Medina saw a 30 percent increase in the number of warrants they were able to serve. In Zanesville, there are several hundred warrants unserved.

Zanesville Police investigated an early morning accident on Putnam Avenue.

Police said that around 1:40 Wednesday morning a car drove into the M&M Pawn Shop.

Lt. Chris Phipps said that no one was hurt and there was no damage done to the building. Lt. Phipps said the driver will probably be cited, but won't know until the paper work is completed.

Traffic was closed Tuesday evening for about an hour after a two vehicle car accident.

According to Sergeant McCoy from Zanesville Police Department, around 6 pm Michelle Grant of Zanesville, was stopped in traffic in the southbound lane waiting to turn left into the Dairy Mart, at 714 Pine Street, when Michael Willison of Zanesville, rear ended Grant.

There were thankfully no injuries to either drivers, but Grant's Oldsmobile had to be towed from the scene...

On Tuesday, Zanesville's City Council introduced an ordinance that if granted by the state, the police department would receive a traffic overtime grant of up to $37,455.51 that will cover 394 overtime hours.

Police officers responded to a call around 10:45 p.m. Monday night about a Maysville High School bus that was coming back from a graduation trip and was shot at near the 200 block of Brighton Boulevard.

"Right now we believe it's going to be maybe a pellet gun or BB gun, or a very small caliber weapon," said Captain Tony Coury.

The Zanesville Police Department investigated an accident that sent a car into a business.

The accident took place around 4:30 Thursday morning when a car traveling east on Shelby tried to turn right onto Cliffwood and failed to maintain control.

Captain Tony Coury said the vehicle went over the curb and hit the building at 502 Cliffwood that house's Justine's Barber Shop.

The driver fled the scene. The Zanesville Fire Department was called to the scene to assist.
