The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Crooksville resident. 

The crash occurred just after 6pm Wednesday and closed State Route 93 for about two hours near Roseville.

While many will be busy with holiday travel plans this weekend, the State Highway Patrol will be busy trying to keep the roadways safe.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said nearly 400 cars passed through their sobriety checkpoint on Maple Avenue Friday night.

The checkpoint was held between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. just north of Kay Drive. Despite a large volume of vehicles, Lt. Matt Boyd said the troopers encountered virtually no issues with drivers.

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol has chosen this year's trooper of the year.

Lt. William Boyd said that the post has chosen 31-year-old Trooper Keith Roe. For his outstanding service during 2013.

Roe joined the patrol in 2004 and has served at the Zanesville Post throughout his career.

He's originally from Quaker City and is a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School and Zane State College.

A 69-year-old Cleveland man succumbs to his injuries after a Monday afternoon accident.
