Two juveniles could be in trouble following a crash Thursday in Springfield Township.

The one-vehicle accident happened around 8 p.m. in the 900-block of Pinkerton Lane just past the intersection of Ridge Road.

According to Trooper Adam McKenzie with the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol, two kids were in a yard on Pinkerton pretending to hit rocks toward passing vehicles with a baseball bat.

Part of U.S. 22 in South Zanesville was shut down for a short time Friday evening following a rollover crash.

According to the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol, around 6:15 p.m. a car was traveling eastbound on U.S. 22 when it slowed to make a right turn onto Shaw Road.

A black truck that was also traveling east struck the back of the car, sending it rolling into a ditch.

The four occupants of the car were uninjured, as was the driver of the truck.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal accident.

According to the patrol, the crash happened on Main Street at Dresden Road in Jefferson Township around 1:40 AM on Sunday.  36-year-old Richard Reed of Pleasant City was driving eastbound on Main Street when he failed to negotiate a turn and went over an embankment.

The front end of his Ford Explorer struck the ground, and Reed was ejected from the vehicle.  A trooper...

The numbers are in following the State Highway Patrols amped-up enforcement during the holiday weekend.

During the New Year's Eve holiday, stretching from December 30th through January 2nd the State Highway Patrol in Muskingum County made a total of 180 traffic stops, 80 of which resulted in enforcement action and three resulting in OVI arrests.

The State Highway Patrol is hoping to round out the year with a safe holiday weekend.

Sergeant Clark Felix said drivers can expect to see extra patrol on the roads starting Saturday.

"We'll see some increase in traffic probably starting tomorrow afternoon with travelers coming in to visit family," said Felix.  "There will also be a little more partying with more bar traffic and more impaired drivers."

One of the busiest travel weekends of the year was a safe one in southeastern Ohio.

Sergeant Chuck Merryman of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said only a handful of minor accidents were reported over the holiday.  He said the overall number of fatal crashes is down from last year in both Muskingum and Coshocton counties.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol warns they will be out in full force this holiday weekend.

The Patrol is asking motorists to help Ohio achieve a record low in fatalities. Last year beginning at midnight on the day before Christmas eve and running through Midnight Christmas Day, 14 people lost their lives on Ohio roadways, with four deaths being alcohol related.

A semi-truck fire shutdown a portion of Interstate 70 East.

It happened shortly after 4:30 on Friday evening near the Gratiot Exit. According to Sergeant Chuck Merryman of the Ohio State Highway Patrol the semi truck driver heard an unusual noise coming from the engine, he then pulled over.

Texting while driving is on the rise even though states are scrambling to ban it.

New Federal Safety data shows texting while driving increased 50% last year. Lieutenant Steven Rine of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said distractive driving has always been an issue, especially as technology increases.

"We promote anything that promotes traffic or highway safety," said Rine. "We just say pay attention while you're driving, focus on getting from point A to point B ....

One of the busiest holiday travel times of the year is now underway.

The Thanksgiving Holiday week is the most traveled time of the year, and you can expect to see the Highway Patrol out in full force.
