Local officials gathered Thursday to cut the ribbon on the new Zanesville Water Treatment Plant.

Mayor Zwelling says this is the 38th ribbon cutting in the past two and a half years, and explained the new facility is something that was very much needed.

The city of Zanesville is preparing to launch its new water treatment plant, and some customers will be without water during the switch.

The city is working with Kokosing Construction to tie the water distribution lines to the new plant on Buckeye Drive.  Work will begin on Tuesday at 3 AM and continue throughout the day until 6 PM.

The following streets will be without water: Lewis Drive, Mitchell Avenue, Neil Avenue, Carpenter Street, Buckeye Drive, Adamsville Road,...

A $16 million project that has been in the works for seven years is finally nearing completion.

The new Zanesville Water Treatment Plant is getting ready to open next week.  Public Service Director Mike Sims said the project is definitely worth the wait.

"Our existing plant has been in operation since the early 1900s," said Sims.  "It was last renovated in the 1980s, and it just has seen better days."

The new plant was funded by stimulus money...
