The wintry weather is here and so are the snow days. Several area school districts called off classes on Monday due to the weather.
Kevin Appleman Coordinator of Student Services for the City of Zanesville said that safety is of the utmost importance when determining whether or not schools will have a snow day. He said they try to notify students, faculty, and parents will in advance.

On Monday night, the Zanesville Blue Devils barely stumbled in a 61-48 victory. In their final dress rehersal before East Liverpool, the Blue Devils did a little bit of everything in their Foundation Game against Thomas Worthington. The defense was sharp, and the offense clicked on the perimeter and in the paint. Tanner Gibson led all scorers with 21 points, newcomer Rian Burrell, a Columbus Beechcroft transfer, scored 15.
The Zanesville Fire Department is giving away free smoke detectors.
The ABC Wilson fund set up at the station provides the devices for free to families who may not be able to afford them. There are no eligibility requirements.
"I've seen some recent statistics that approximately 20 percent of the fires nationwide that occur, dwelling fires where there's either no smoke detectors or working smoke detectors," said Fire Chief Dave Lacy.
Zanesville city officials are working to strengthen their relationship with one local organization.
A Crime and Violence Committee meeting was held Monday night to discuss communication issues between the Zanesville Crime Stoppers and the police department. Member Don Jones addressed several problems the group has encountered with getting responses from the Z.P.D. It was decided that additional meetings were needed to seek a resolution.

After months of waiting, Acute Nursing Care of Zanesville is proud to finally announce that its received certification from Medicare and the Community Health Accreditation Program. The company had to be extensively reviewed; having its employees, policies and procedures surveyed.
