100 Units for 100 Years of American Red Cross

NORWICH, Ohio – The Southeastern Ohio American Red Cross is celebrating 100 years of service by asking for 100 units of blood.
According to the American Red Cross website the Southeastern Ohio American Red Cross has been serving the residents of Athens, Belmont, Coshocton, Gallia, Guernsey, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Vinton, and Washington counties since May of 1917. Senior Account Manager Lori Gaitten said 100 units of blood will help with the current blood shortage.
“Those 100 units couldn’t come at a better time, because we are still in a critical blood emergency,” Gaitten said. “So getting people not only to come celebrate the American Red Cross in this very giving way is going to be very critical in helping us restore our inventory to an adequate level to help our hospitals.”
American Red Cross has teamed up with Zanesville High School for the Anniversary blood drive. Red Cross originally asked the high school to use their gymnasium for the size of the area and Principal Laura Tompkins agreed.
“Of course I think it’s important for us to bring the community into our school,” Tompkins said. “Back in the olden days the school was the center of the community and I think we’ve gotten away from that and we have to bring the community back into the schools. We’re just wanting the whole community to come out and help out. We need 144 volunteers to get 100 units of blood.”
The Zanesville soccer teams will hold the blood drive on August 2, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. All who participate will receive a Bogo Columbus Zoo Coupon, which is good for six admissions. They’ll also be entered into a weekly drawing to Zoombezi Bay.
