12-2 MVL basketball recap: Bailee Smith drops 35 in Panthers’ season opener

SOUTHEAST, Ohio – After the first four games of the season were postponed, Bailee Smith and the Maysville Panthers were finally able to take the court.
Maysville hosted Meadowbrook in an impromptu match-up in South Zanesville Wednesday night after both teams’ originally scheduled games were postponed.
The Panthers got off to a slow start, leading 15-4 after one, before catching fire and exploding to a 78-21 win over the Colts. Smith led all scorers with 35 points in the winning effort, with some assistance from returning starter Averee Vaughn’s 19.
Meadowbrook’s Kenli Norman led the Colts with 6 points.

In Perry County, the Crooksville Lady Ceramics welcomed Philo to The Kiln.
A close game for most of the first half, the Electrics created some separation via a 20-3 run through the second and third quarters, kickstarted by nine straight points from Amasia Barnett. Barnett finished with a game high 16 points.
McKenna Headley and Grace Frame led the Ceramics with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

The Tri-Valley Lady Scotties travelled to Warsaw to face River View in MVL Big School action. Lexi Howe led the way with 17 as the Scotties rolled to a big win over the Black Bears.

In boys’ action, West Muskingum travelled to Johnstown Northridge to open their 2020-21 campaign.
With under a minute to go in overtime, West M’s Kyle Reilly, who finished with 19 points, completed a three point play to give the Tornadoes a 62-60 lead over the Vikings. Andre Crockwell added two free throws to seal the game.
