14th Annual Rib Fest set for Labor Day weekend

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The 14th Annual Rib Fest is set to kick off this weekend at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.
There will be 14 different vendors from all over the state and even some from across the country. The event is hosted by the Minority Business Resource Network of Southeastern Ohio, who created the event 14 years ago.
“Well originally when we first started out, it was just something that we thought the community needed and we found out that they did need it,” said event organizer Ernest E. Bynum.
There will be live music, a beer garden, food vendors and of course a rib competition. The event also serves as a way to raise scholarship funds for Zanesville High School students attending college.
“We offer four to five book scholarships, $250 scholarships that the kids make applications for they apply for and we decide,” said Bynum. “This year we gave four scholarships away and we had 32 applications.”
The judges of this year’s competition will be fire chiefs from Zanesville, South Zanesville and Falls Township fire departments.
The festival runs Friday, September 1st, and Saturday, September 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to midnight.
