Nationwide Children’s Hospital Brings Children’s Healthcare Closer to Home

The main campus of Nationwide Children’s Hospital is a long drive to Columbus, which is why they now have a Close to Home Center, right here in Zanesville.

The center is set to open its doors this Thursday, offering nationally ranked pediatric specialists in urology, hematology, oncology, genetics, lab services, cardiology, and adult congenital heart disease. All conveniently located at 740 Adair Avenue. Bringing services to the community that Site Director Shaun Coffman see’s as vital to the community.

“It’s a great thing to bring to the community, that way they don’t have to drive because as we know it’s time away from work or gas money. Things can get expensive, so they might not be able to make the trip and then they don’t have access to that care. So having this in the community is hugely important to us,” Coffman said.

The center took a year to put together, with financial assistance from the Health Resources and Services Administration Community Project Fund. The funding was supported by U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and U.S. Representative Troy Balderson. According to Coffman, the new challenge is raising awareness.

“I think the biggest challenge for us is kind of upcoming, is to get the word out more and really spread that awareness. Obviously, if they don’t know that we’re here, then they might still try to drive to Columbus. So, trying to really grow our footprint here and make sure everybody’s aware that they have these amazing services here, closer to home,” Coffman said.
