19th Annual City Wide Singspiration

More than 150 people gathered at the John-McIntyre Library Sunday evening to honor Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.
The 19th Annual City-Wide Singspiration featured a combined five choirs that sang three spiritual hymns. The featured speaker of the City Wide Singspiration is Rev. Reginald Martin from First Baptist Church.
"The significance of our speaker is that he actually participated in the civil rights movement by marching in the third march on Selma in 1965," says Carlotta Workman the coordinator of City Wide Singspiration.
Rev. Martin shared his personal story about growing up during the times of segregation and he says even at a young age, he recognized its injustice. He vividly told the audience about the atmosphere surrounding the Civil Rights Movement and the third march on Selma.
"It is necessary to remember where we have come and where we need to go, the message Dr. Martin Luther King gave was one of peace, equality, and one of freedom and we need to remember that in our daily walk and how we treat others and how we live our lives," says Workman.
Workman says the purpose of the program is to not only celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s life, but to celebrate what he stood for.
