Healthy Outcomes Receives Funding

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum Recreation Center now offers a program for adults with developmental disabilities.
The United Way has provided funding for the Healthy Outcomes program to have land and water classes for those with DD. Katie McNeil, the Muskingum County Recreation Center Membership Manager, said that they come twice weekly for land class and then once a week for a nutrition class.
“It’s a need with this population. Just as with anyone else here in our community to get up and get exercising,†said McNeil.
The program was awarded funding to add the land class to their calendar this year, and participation has nearly doubled.
“It’s a great benefit. It’s a health benefit for them to be here. We had some great success stories. Many participants lost weight and increased their life satisfaction and how they feel about themselves. They’re comfortable here, and enjoy being at the recreation center,†said McNeil.
The recreation center looks forward to helping the adults work towards keeping a healthy lifestyle.
