2016 Big Brother of the Year Award

Guidance has been one man’s gift to the community and today he is receiving recognition for his hard work and dedication.

The Zanesville Country Club is hosted a celebration for John Merriweather. Who is receiving the State of Ohio Big Brother of the Year Award presented by the Big Brothers Big Sisters State Association. Merriweather said being brought up in a single family house hold. He understands first hand the importance of support and guidance in a young man’s life.

"Not just young males but, young black males in particular. There’s a harder road, there’s a struggle and in order to get ahead in life you have to have someone that gives back to you," said
John Merriweather.

Little brother, Leondre Crosby said the two of them clicked instantly and said John helped mold him into the man he is today.

"He definitely has molded me into the person that I am today. I am good with people, i’m good with my talking skills and everything else. He gives a lot of speeches and he’s a well known person around Zanesville," said Leondre Crosby. "He’s proud because, he’s seen me in the newspaper a lot and we’ve came along way from where we started in the 5th grade."

Little brother Leondre said he appreciates all that his big brother has done for him and he will always be apart of his life.
