2017 MVESC Administrators Opening Day Celebration

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local teachers were honored today for being exemplary educators and aspiring to be administrators.

Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center honored 18 teachers and one aspiring administrator from school districts in Coshocton, Hocking, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry, and Tuscarawas counties.

M.V.E.S.C. Chief Operating Officer Christine Wagner said the M.V.E.S.C. Administrators Opening Day Celebration is an annual event to kick-off the school year by honoring dedicated teachers.

“These are teachers that represent the gold standard in education,” Wagner said. “They love their students, they expect the best from them, they find creative ways to reach students, they’re leaders, and they are building. Other teachers come to them for advice and guidance.”

The aspiring administrator is Franklin Local School’s Scott Mosebrook who wants to transition into being a principal or a special education coordinator.

Wagner noticed the honorees were excited about their nominations and also very humbled.

“What I noted today with all the speeches, everybody is humbled,” Wagner said. “They all feel that maybe a colleague deserved it more than they did. The big thing with all these teachers is how much they care about their students.”

Gordon Arney a first grade teacher from Ridgewood Local Schools and Angie Powell a Preschool teacher for M.Y.E.S.C. have known they were nominees since spring of 2017.

“It is an honor, I’m trying to just do my job” Arney said. “That’s what I’m supposed to be doing. So it is an honor, because you were selected for it.”

“It’s very humbling, I was shocked when I got the call that I was to receive this award,”Powell said. “I just go to work everyday and do what I love. So it’s nice to be recognized for doing what I love and having fun with the kids and families.”

M.V.E.S.C. honored the aspiring administrator with a scholarship to help with administrative licensure coursework and each teacher received an award and scholarship for the good work they’ve done.
