ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum Behavioral Health is helping girls in the community grow emotionally with their annual summer camp.

The 15th annual S.T.A.R.S. Summer Camp will be June 12th, 13th, and 14th. S.T.A.R.S. stands for Sensitivity, Tolerance, Attitude, Responsibility, and Self-Esteem. The event is for girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Coordinator, Ronelle Barnett said the camp will hold numerous activities that will help middle school girls become more confident.

“It is three days of just nothing but, empowering young women because it’s all about self-esteem, decision making, thinking about their future and goals,” said Barnett.

Barnett said there is a great need for this summer program because it is important for girls to know there is meaning in their lives. She said she can see the personal growth in each girl because they are put into unfamiliar situations.

“When they come, we randomly throw them into four groups and they just get mixed up. That’s who they travel with. They travel through 14 to 15 different workshops over the three days so they can get stuck into a group with somebody they don’t know and for some that’s scary,” said Barnett.

The camp will be at O.U.Z.-Zane State and it’s $15. The application can be found on Muskingum Behavioral Health’s Facebook page.
