NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio – Ohio is unique in the fact that each of its 88 counties holds an agricultural celebration for its local merchants and farmers to showcase their products.

Mid-July in Perry County means time for the fair, as many of the residents, especially the children, have a role to fill. Perry County Fair Board President Ron Baker explained how many of the fair’s objectives serve to strengthen the community.

“Well first of all, the fair is geared toward our 4-H, our FFA kids, our Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts,” Baker said. “It’s kids first. They have skill projects, they have animal projects and it’s more of an agricultural atmosphere. Of course, obviously we have the rides and the games and what have you but for the most part, our focus is on the kids and their projects.”

In many cases the fair serves as an opportunity for friends and families to reunite while enjoying diverse dining selections along with a wide array of rural themed entertainment.

“Saturday night we have the big truck and tractor pull. That’s our big draw, big entertainment draw for Saturday. And obviously, our livestock sale. The kids get to sell their projects and that’s… that’s a huge day. I mean the grounds are busy from early in the morning ‘til late at night on Saturday. But of course, obviously we still have the rides. We have a new ride company this year, Primetime Carnivals and they brought some fantastic rides in,” Baker said.

Saturday will be the last day for the Perry County Fair but the Muskingum County Fair will take place in August, the Morgan County Fair in September and the Fairfield County Fair will wrap up the 2024 Ohio’s county fair season in October.
