Washington Twp. Fire Department discusses levy

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Washington Township Fire Department hopes that you will vote YES for their levy on November 8th.
With a lack of volunteers, the fire department needs to adequately staff their station 24/7. Chief, Gene Hanning, says they hope to fill five positions if the levy passes, which will allow for quicker responses to emergencies.
“We really need the manpower, and we are hoping that we can have adequate manpower if we can pass the levy. Also, to be used for some equipment, but the biggest thing is the staffing, and being able to go out and server the community,” said Hanning.
With thousands driving through the limits of Washington Township everyday, they are now asking for your support to increase their levy another one and a half mils.
Hanning said that adding more staff will lower the amount of time it takes to get to your emergencies.
“The key thing is we want to be able to get out there and save a life and extinguish the fire before it turns into a major problem,” said Hanning.
The department invites all members of the community to meetings on Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m., and Wednesday, October 26th at 7 p.m. to learn more about the levy.
