Reading Festival Set at Colony Square Mall

Muskingum County- Looking for something to do this summer? The Muskingum County Library System has some to offer with their upcoming festival and competition.

The library is kicking off the start of summer with the Muskingum County Literacy Council to host the Muskingum County Reading Festival happening at the Colony Square Mall on June 7 from 10am-1pm.

The festival, meant for all ages will have author panels, book giveaways, raffles, storytime and special visits from characters like Bluey.

The event receives support from sponsors including The Noon Rotary Club, Muskingum County Community Foundation, Kiwanis and CareSource.

“We are going to have a bunch of vendors here, we have about 80 all together,” said Outreach Services Manager of the MCLS Joshua McPeek, “Many of those are community organizations and groups from around and we even have 20 plus authors that will be here and that ranges from adult authors to children’s authors.”

The festival will promote the library’s Color Our World summer reading program. The program will run from June 1 to July 31 and is fit for readers of all ages. Readers participate by logging their reading through the Beanstack App to gain points that will enter participants into a chance to win prizes like a Nintendo Switch or a Wilds Zipline Safari Tour.

Reading programs like these can help children in keeping their reading skills sharp while school is out.

“It’s really important to keep everybody engaged with reading all year round, especially for our students, younger kids, it’s important that just because schools not in, reading is fun and we should want to do it all year. And of course we want adults involved as well because they set a great example for kids to keep reading and to show them that reading is fun,” explained McPeek.

To sign up for the Color our World Summer Reading Program visit a Muskingum County Library System location or download the Beanstack App to get started on tracking reading progress.
