ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The local community has a chance to dispose of unwanted and expired medications this weekend.

Riesbeck’s in South Zanesville is partaking in prescription Drug Take-back Day this Saturday October 22nd, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, says the Sheriff’s office has helped with Drug Take-back Day for years and it all started when the Drug Enforcement Agency sent out a letter asking for local departments for participation.

“It was a situation where we could take the you know used pills, unused pills, old out dated prescriptions and D.E.A. was willing to take those pills and destroy them,” said Lutz. “So we partnered with them several years back and of course with Muskingum County, we’re very fortunate to have multiple groups that really help out with that.”

Jane Dombroski the Riesbeck’s Consumer Advocate, says The Drug Take-back Day is a way for everyone to dispose of unwanted prescriptions in a healthy and secure manner.

“Do not dump those in your toilets, we do not want those getting into our drinking water, we do not want children getting their hands on those, and we do not want you putting them in your trash cause people are getting desperate and they will go through your trash,” said Dombroski. “So again just bring them here and we’ll secure them for you.”

The Riesbeck’s pharmacy will also collect Animal medication.
