A local automobile dealership has teamed up with the city to create a fire suppression system downtown.

Dutro Ford Lincoln Incorporated and the City of Zanesville worked together to give Dutro’s a mandatory fire suppression system, however that’s only a small detail in the Sixth Street project. Dutro’s and Zanesville are creating better circulation of water in the Seventh Street and South Street area, said Jay Bennett the Public Service Director for Zanesville.

“From South street to Marietta [street] at the foot of the bridge there was no connection between those two water systems,” said Bennett. “So in essence what we’ve done is create a looped water system.”

Bennett says the Sixth Street area also had state road work occur earlier this year and the City of Zanesville had to work with the Ohio Department of Transportation to construct an eight inch main between South Street and Marietta without harming the roads latest work.

“They came in and did that base course and then held off-putting the asphalt on top until this could be worked out and gotten permission from the state to delay doing that final application,” said Bennett. “So we don’t have to cut it after its paved.”

Bennett says the water main construction is currently on time and should be finished by Saturday October 29, 2016.
