ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties 211 call center received 720 calls last month.

The largest amount of calls, over 40 percent, were food related. Community Impact Director, Becky Clawson said calls for holiday help have also started coming in.

“We’re seeing some calls already for that holiday help and assistance for those programs like Salvation Army and Eastside Community Ministries,” said Clawson. “What we want to do is make sure that people know that this resource is available. If you call 211, you can get connected with resources that your need for assistance like holiday help, clothing.”

As on October 1st, 211 started a text program. This means individuals looking for information or help can not only call but can text their zip code to 898-211 where they will receive a personalized response.

“I know we’ve had several people that we’re personally connected with already utilized that resource,” said Clawson. “We want to keep reminding the community that you can text 211… You can just text the zip code where you are so that they are connecting you with local resources. Usually, most of the questions that people text for can be answered within three text messages.”
