ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Jim McLaughlin performed his 22nd Annual Organ Recital on Sunday, October 14th.

He played at the Central Trinity United Methodist Church and people filled the room to watch him perform. This year McLaughlin included some friends from 7th grade and up to perform along side of him. He played the organ and there was a violin included, as well as a piano and some singing.

“Well we have some classical stuff,” McLaughlin said. “We have to have Bach and Franz and big names but we’ll have an interesting story about the America The Beautiful and we’ll do a chronological of some famous composers also.”

McLaughlin said people came to see if he can still do it and that they are music lovers who want to support him and the other performers. He hopes for those that attend, it would encourage them about the music in the community and at the church.

“Well at first it was just a thank you to Central Trinity Church when they rebuilt the pipe organ. It’s getting close to it 100th birthday so 23 years ago they decided it was time to invest a little money and update it and it has made it a fancy instrument,” McLaughlin said. “So I’m very pleased about that and I thought I’d do a recital for a couple years and here’s more than a couple of years, we just keep doing it and there’s cookies so there’s a reason to be here too.”

One of his jobs is to encourage the next generation of musicians. For those who did not make it out, he said you missed out on having a lot of fun and some cookies but he will be performing again next year.
