27th Annual Taste of Color Held by Zanesville Civic League Community Center

27th Annual Taste Of Color

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- In support of the young children in the community and Black History Month, the Zanesville Civic League Community Center held their 27th Annual Taste of Color event.

Taste of Color is a time where community residents can purchase delicious food meals that help enhance the center’s youth programs.

Lisa Rooks, Executive director at the Civic League, talked about the purpose of the event and said this year is a little different, but they are excited to continue with the tradition.

“The Taste of Color came about 27 years ago as a part of Black History Month, a part of tasting ethnic food, a part of developing and showing people what we can do,” Rooks stated. “As with our schools, we did themes, in our school’s we do essays, drawings and things like that, but with the pandemic, we’re still doing it, but it put us behind a little bit. But that’s what it is  and ethnic doesn’t just mean black food, it’s food from all over.”

The Civic League was created to provide a facility where Black children could feel safe and participate in recreation, and education.

Rooks said that the proceeds will go towards the after school and day camp programs like tutoring, basketball, karate and more.

“It supports our mission, supporting our after school programs, supporting other programs that we may have that comes across, equipment, mats, anything like that, that we can think of we need,” Rooks said.

This is one of the Civic League’s biggest events.

Rooks said it does take a crew to prepare for this and expresses her gratitude towards those who took the time in participating this year.
