2nd Annual Jingle Bell Run
In freezing temperatures this morning, runners donned spandex and t-shirts to raise money for a a local school.
The 2nd Annual Jingle Bell Run raises hundreds of dollars for the Cambridge Cross Country Booster Club.
"We do a lot of things with our kids. This will probably go towards a fun event we will do next summer, we will go to a camp or we may go canoeing for something like that," says organizer Dan Oswald.
The Jingle Bell Run is comprised of two races, a one mile race and a 5k race. As the runners lined up, some had hopes of winning, while others just hoped to finish the 5k.
"Slow and steady, slow and steady finishes the race, not slow and steady wins the race," laughs runner Peter Berridge.
The course took runners around the Cambridge High School area. The champions are Pat Marshall and Ashley Dunigan. Ashley was a state champion runner for Cambridge High School in 2002. She says events like these are great for the community.
"I was telling my parents that I think the best thing that you can do for a community and bringing people together for both health and wellness is just a 5k. So being from Cambridge, I have always envisioned having more 5ks to bring some money and fun into the community," says Dunigan.
The winners of the one mile and 5k races received plaques, trophies and bragging rights until next year.
