Mid-East Students Receive Kish Scholarship

ZANESVILLE, OH – Three Mid-East Career and Technology Center Students were honored with a scholarship.

Powerline Technician Seniors Peyton Brison, Alex Evans and Braden St. Clair were awarded the Kish Scholarship.

Lyndsay Myers said they created this scholarship in memory of her brother, Joey, who was a Mid-East graduate who sadly passed away in a tragic accident.

Myers said the scholarship recipients received a vital piece of equipment called a ‘buck squeeze’.

“A buck squeeze is an equipment piece that the men will wear around them and it loops around the pole,” Myers said. “In an event that they would slide off the pole, it would catch them to where it would minimize their injury.”

Myers said her brother was a great guy and always there if you needed a hand. She said it’s been amazing to see the community’s support in helping to carry on the legacy Joey left.

“I feel like he was always there to help others and we want to continue to do the same,” Myers said. “So we can have this scholarship, raise money, and have the support from our community. The support from people giving donations, from businesses, individuals, Joey’s friends, families, our friends and family, everybody came in and supported so much and that just gives us a way to give back and that’s something that we are all very proud to do.”

Myers says they will be awarding the Kish Scholarship every May to coincide with National Electrical Safety Month.
