33rd Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast to recognize scholarship recipients and the Animal Shelter Society
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast is ready to honor local students and a special local organization.
The event is the primary fundraiser for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund and a chance to recognize the students who have earned the scholarship award this year for their academic achievements.
“These students work diligently. They work very, very hard because they are in this higher academic realm and to put forth that extra effort means a lot to them. And, we’d like to recognize them for that extra effort that they put in to achieving this academic goal,” said Carlotta Workman, a committee member for the MLK Jr. Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship fund has also announced that the Animal Shelter Society will be recognized as the 2026 Honoree for its contributions to the community. April Gibson, the executive director of the Animal Shelter Society, says the news of their recognition was just what the team needed when they needed it.
“It’s very humbling to be, you know, recognized for the work that we do. Sometimes, when the roller coaster ride is really tough and you don’t think folks are noticing it,” Gibson said. “So, when I got that call, you know, it was really something. It really does your heart good and then you want to share it immediately with the 22 staff members that are there. They’re really the ones that make it happen. I just handle the day-to-day operations and then 16 board members.”
The 33rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast is January 19th, at the North Terrace Church of Christ in Zanesville at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased on their website and at the Muskingum County Conference and Welcome Center.
