ZANESVILLE, OH – A night of entrepreneurship for young startup businesses is happening at Zane State College.

The 3rd annual Shark Tub Business Plan Pitch Competition is set to get under way on Thursday, April 26th from 6 to 8PM in the Campus Center.

Brent Mirgon, a member of the Planning Committee for Shark Tub, says this is an opportunity for businesses to pitch their ideas to the community.

“In a format that allows them to kind of show off what they’re doing, whether it’s a new idea or maybe it’s something they’ve got a patent on or they’re working on a patent.” Mirgon said. “Just targeting businesses that are less than 5 years old and again try to give them an opportunity to show what they’re doing.”

Mirgon says the reason they keep hosting this event is because there aren’t many opportunities like this for small businesses, where they’re able to hear feedback about their products from potential ‘investors’.

Terri Clapper, another member of the Planning Committee, says this event is free and open to the public to attend.

She says the way it’ll work is attendees will be able to hear the different businesses talk about their products or ideas, then the attendees will be given fake money, which they can then use to ‘invest’ into the business they like the best.

“So for the first hour the businesses are actually going to be competing, I mean sharing their idea to compete to get to the top 3.” Clapper said. “At the end of the hour, the top 3, as we mentioned, who gets the most money the ‘monopoly money’, the investment money from the public is going to go up on stage during the second hour to be able to present in the competition for the top 3 who have earned the most from the public money.”
