40th Annual Newark Strawberry Festival kicks off

Img 8537NEWARK, OH- The Newark Strawberry Festival returned today for its 40th year, kicking off a weekend of rides, games, food, and live music. The event runs through Sunday.

Hosted by the Newark Kiwanis Club, the festival raises funds for Camp O’Bannon, which serves at risk youth in Licking County for free.

“We support them, as well as partner with a women’s club called 20th Century Club, and so together we provide this camp experience, plus United Way funds them, but we’re proud to be a part of supporting Camp O’Bannon for many years,” said the first female member of the Kiwanis Club, Paddy Kutz.

Admission is free, but rides require tickets or a $25 wristband. Vendors line the square, and strawberry themed treats including shortcake, donuts and ice cream are available throughout the event.

“Kiwanis has been around for a long time, our goal throughout the world is to serve children locally and throughout the world and we’re proud to be a part of that,” said Kutz.

Entertainment includes live bands, DJs and a shortcake eating contest. A fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday night. The festival is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information visit the Newark Strawberry Festival Facebook page.
