5-K Walk to Benefit the Veterans Building

Many came out to walk in hopes to better the conditions of the Veterans building at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

The Fairgrounds hosted their very first 5K Walk. Adults were $15 children walkers between ages 13-17 were $5 and kids 12 years old and younger were free. We spoke to Muskingum County Fair board member Dan Thornton and he tells us why they decided to have a 5K Walk.

"Well, the reason why we did the 5K Walk is so more people would get out and just walk and they weren’t jogging. That way, more people that participate. The kids can come out and walk with their parents," said Thornton.

Thornton said, the money raised will go directly toward the Muskingum County Fair restrooms and new tables and chairs for the Veterans Building.

"The Veterans Building is used pretty much all year around, probably every weekend there’s something going on and a lot if times during the week. Just like this restroom back here, it’s used about five months out of the year. Because, you got the farmers market, that runs most of the summer. There just old, they just been here for many years. They’ve just run their course," said Thornton.

The 5k is expected to continue next year.
