5 Year Old Receives Recognition

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A John McIntire kindergarten student is receiving a lot of recognition Friday.

Dairrick Jordan is not your average 5 year old. He’s a gifted student who reads at a 6th grade level. His teacher Mrs. Mclain, wanted to challenge Jordan. His assignment was to interview someone and he picked the Zanesville Fire Department. After the interview Jordan wrote and illustrated a book about firemen.

“I took all that information and made a book,” said Jordan.

“His book had a true meaning from the interview that we shared with him. Like Senator Balderson said this is a first in Ohio. This 5 year old young man has made this fire fighter very proud,”said Zanesville Fire Department Assistant Chief Doug Hobson.

On Friday Jordan read his book titled “Firefighters” to his family, classmates, Mayor Jeff Tilton, the fire chief, representatives from the state fire marshals office, officials with the city of Zanesville Citiy Schools , and State Senator Troy Balderson.

“The sky is the limit. We talk just a couple days ago about him. I’m holding the next president of the United States. He can go anywhere he wants to go. He has the mind for it. He’s got the gift for it. He’s extremely special,” said Hobson.

“I can be anything I want to be,” said Jordan.

Jordan does plan on writing another book. The next book will be about police.
