5K For Addiction and Recovery Awareness
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides and Muskingum Behavioral Health are sponsoring the “Run for Recovery 5K.”
It will take place April 9th at Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State College Cora Rogge Pavilion. There is no fee for the run. Admission is a donation of a household item.
“What they’ve done is, they’ve taken the 5K and made it an awareness run/walk for addiction recovery. We’re getting the message out about addiction is. And people can recover from addictions as well as getting somethings that our guys need that are in our recovery house,” said Muskingum Behavioral Health CEO Steve Carrel.
Carrel stressed the importance of events like this.
“For many years now addiction related events are usually not held. Folks don’t want to talk about addiction. People see addiction as a lifestyle choice, when in reality it’s a brain disease. More and more people are getting the idea that this is a brain disease,” said Carrel.
To register for this event, visit mccf.org or in person at the Muskingum County Community Foundation by April 1st.
