91-year-old woman takes first plane ride

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A 91-year-old woman is proving it’s never too late to try something new while fulfilling a lifetime dream.

At 91-years-old, Jean Ledford is as sharp as can be. She’s full of life and has a charming personality. Over the course of her life she’s had many experiences. Some more memorable than others.

“I guess the most important days in my life would’ve been my day I got married and when my children were born,” said Ledford.

Next month, Ledford will be 92-years-old, but today she had a chance to do something she’s always dreamed of doing:

“The other day, Marie, our activity director came and said, ‘Your wish has been granted. You’re going on an airplane ride.’”

Ledford said the opportunity to go on a plane never happened for her, but through a wish program at her senior living home she’s taking her first flight. Ledford’s family joined her at the Zanesville airport to show their support. Her son Larry says he’s happy his mom had this opportunity.

“I’m really excited for her. I know this is just a big thrill for her and it’s probably a once in a lifetime experience for her.”

So how did Ledford enjoy her first flight?

“It was awesome! Everything is beautiful from up there. Everything was green and beautiful with little matchbox cars down on the road. It was just beautiful.”

Ledford says that the plane ride isn’t the only first for her today. She says it’s also her first time on TV.
