92 animals adopted on ‘Clear the Shelter’ day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- 92 animals were adopted on ‘Clear the Shelter’ day at the Animal Shelter Society on Saturday.
President of the Board of Directors for the Animal Shelter Society, Stephanie Hill, said most of the animals adopted were cats and dogs. There were also two rabbits, two ferrets, and a rat adopted. She said all the adoptable animals were adopted. Adoptions didn’t just take place on Saturday.
“This event drew so much attention to the shelter,” said Hill. “We had families here all week. We did more adoptions through the week than we’ve done all year.”
Hill said even though the adoption fee was either free or just ten dollars for dog tags, the shelter made sure the animals were going to a good home.
“Our staff is very well trained on how to identify any potential issues with adopters,”said Hill. “They treat every adoption the same on Saturday as we do every other single day. They sat down and talked with the folks. We did have a couple of adoptions we didn’t approve because they were situations with the animal itself that needed some more medical care and vet care. The people were honest that they really couldn’t do that.”
Hill said this was all made possible by the donation from the Jonard Family. With the clearing of the shelter, this will allow the shelter to bring in more animals to be adopted.
