The Muskingum Soil And Water Conservation District Holds Preliminary Budget Meeting

The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District met with County Commissioners Monday.

The purpose was to submit their preliminary budget for 2016 and discuss highlights of upcoming events and things being worked on. We had the chance to talk to Lisa Crock, Administrator for the Soil and Water Conservation District who gave us an overview of some of the highlights.

"The grant is called nutrient management and water quality. We’ve received a $5,000 grant from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and we’re working in conjunction with Muskingum University to study soil health in 25 fields in the county and also take plant tissue samples and then water samples."

Crock says they hope to determine that was available in the field before fertilizing, nutrients acquired by the plant while growing and nutrients leaving a field in the form of tile drainage. Crock also told us about some upcoming events.

"We have out ATV tour in July and then we also have a series of pasture walks that we’re holding in conjunction with Morgan County. Those will be in July, August and September."

Crock says there is also a forestry series taking place in August and September with three evening workshops along with a field event. You can learn more about these upcoming events by calling the number: (740)454-2027
