Hog Roast Celebration for our local Veterans

Hog Roast Celebration For Our Local Veterans

Veteran’s Day is only three days away and along with all the parades, ceremonies and other festivities, one local organization has a special way to show their support.

The Duncan Falls Philo Lions Club is honoring Vets with their fifth annual Veteran’s Day Hog Roast. Vets who came out ate for a discounted price of just $5.00. The event took place at Wayne Township Hall in Duncan Falls. We spoke with Duncan Falls Philo Lions Club President- Melanie Smith and she tells us it’s a blessing to give back to those who serve our country.

“We had been having a dinner for everyone to come in and enjoy and celebrate the fact that they had served and we’re blessed to have anyone that is willing to serve our country,” said Smith.

Smith tells us that it takes almost a year to prepare for the event. They feed nearly one-hundred Veterans and this roast went on from noon until the ‘little Piggy’ was sold out. Smith said that they love doing things for the community and she is glad there was such a huge turn out.

“Oh, this is amazing because, we always try to give to the community. That’s one of the things that we always try to do is give to the community.”

All the proceeds from this event are used toward scholarships for Philo High School students.
