Ohio State Highway Patrol Increase Police Presence New Year’s Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â AAA projected that 1 in 3 will take a trip this holiday season. With many traveling more than 50 miles from home to do so. And more cars on the roadways means more need for officers to ensure that all that holiday travel happens safety.
Our highways will be packed with motorists. So the Ohio State Patrol is increasing police presence to ensure safety of all travelers in our area.
“We will have additional patrol on New Year’s Day just like we will New Year’s Eve. Federal funds in addition to our allocated man power. We don’t want people to go to their friend’s house, drink and then drive. We just want them to either stay there or have someone with them that’s a designated driver to drive them home. To make sure they make it safely,” said Lieutenant Boyd.
Lieutenant Boyd said he wants to keep the rates of incidences low.
“Our goal is to have zero. I don’t know if we’ll be able to do that. With the number of miles that are traveled in this county. The biggest problem is speed. It’s one of the most contributing factors we have in crashes,” said Boyd.
Lieutenant Boyd said troopers will be issuing citations for minor traffic violations as well.
