ZPD Caution Motorists to Slow Down and Not Tailgate Other Motorists

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The Zanesville Police Department wants motorists to slow down.
Police Captain, Tony Coury said obeying the speed limit is always important but it’s especially crucial in school zones.
“Blue Avenue is 25 mph from the interstate all the way to Taylor. That was put in place because of so many people that were walking. And so many kids that were crossing Blue Avenue to enter the middle school or the high school,” said Coury.
When you approach school zones with flashing lights the speed limit is 20 miles per hour. Captain Coury said another thing that officers notice and issue citations for is tailgating.
“Anytime that you’re following another car you need to stay back far enough if the car in front of you needs to stop, that you are not running into the back of them. Always maintain an assured clear distance. Tailgating because you’re in a hurry is never necessary. You’re going to get there maybe a couple seconds later. But not a lot of time is going to elapse if you were just to follow the posted speed limit,” said Coury.
ZPD wants to keep the roads safe for all motorists and pedestrians.
